Week Sixteen

Earth Day (April 22, 2012)

There were many things I wanted to write about this week, but it seems appropriate to write about Earth Day.  I read that more than one billion people would commit to a green sustainable future.  The article ended with what can each one of us do to help?  I am committed!  Here are my 10 things that I am going to do as part of my green footprint.

1) Always recyle.

2) Do not buy bottled water.  More than 2.4 million pounds of plastic bottles were recyled in 2008.  (I couldnt find a recent number but the article said the rate increases 27% per year).

3) Check out the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) website  http://www.epa.gov and learn ways to help, save our planet more, and educate myself better.

4) Continue to use my household green household products, Legacy of Clean,  (LOC) designed for safer chemistry and for protection of the environment. Get rid of all toxic products in my home!

5) Conserve electric energy and water. Use ‘”Energy Star” products to expand cost-saving energy conservation, i.e. eventually switch out my windows, refridgerator, dishwasher and all of the old-goldy energy sucker applicances.

6) Capture rain water in barrels for reuse and recycling.

7) Replace my light bulbs with CFL.

) Make sure my little mini is running to max capacity, i.e. air pressure in tire, use high octane gas, clean air filter, and share a ride now and again!

9) Dont eat our of a can with BPA lining.  I heard someone say no wonder our society has cancer, especially if we arent eating natural products (grown at home) and eating out of cans full of BPA…. more on this…

10) Making sure my internal, house air quality is free of pollutions, so I can breathe healthier.

A lot more to learn.

Julie
