I recently recommended this book “Pillars of the Earth” to a friend. It has been one of my favorite reads ever! It is a historical novel by Ken Follett published in 1989 (and republished) about the building of a cathedral in the town of Kingsbridge, England. The book traces the development of Gothic architecture and the fortunes of the Kingsbridge priory and village. The book lies on a bedside table at our beach cottage with hope that someone will pick up this book, relax, and read at the beach. It’s a Gem!
I write about this book today because I was sent a beautiful picture of my home castle, Warwick Castle, built 1098 
today approx 20 miles or so from my home village, in a Love Great Britain face book post. Happy memories of so much history, beautiful architecture and castles
