A beautiful little town I visit often. I so connected with the restaurants, the rivers, the people with the “southern culture/mentality” she describes in the book. Her visual verbiage made me think I was in New Bern, living her story. On a side note, New Bern, NC, is the quaintest little town in NC, but I do think it holds on to it’s secrets? There is a twist in the book that takes us to San Diego, my 2nd favorite city in the US, which I also connected to. I was so into this book of 343 pages that I couldnt put it down and finished reading it within a week; not only did I connect with the town and cities, the family secrets, the losses, siblings complexities, but also the secrets never told by parents who sacrifice for the love of their children. Oh my! let’s never hold on to those secrets!

Etching and sketching ~Boston is one of my favorite cities in the US and also a place to learn about US history. This museum was a place to learn about the Boston Tea Party which took place on December 16th, 1773. “It was a protest by the American Colonists against the British in regards to the tea taxes that had been imposed on them. This protest involved throwing chests of tea from three British trade ships into the Boston Harbor.” It was a place to learn about how this act became significant in the independence of America. Just across the harbor from the museum was a great place to eat fresh seafood at the Barking Crab lively with delicious food. After eating the delicious Boston seafood + other goodies, I visited the Boston, Bikram Yoga studio on Boylston to burn off calories. Across the street from the yoga studio I took pics of Trinity Church and the John Hancock building. Later I continued my walk through down town, noting the icons, of the Brownstone buildings and a wooden yellow bench with said, “Keep running Boston, Boston Strong“, then peace symbols above churches reading, “love they (Muslim) neighbor as thyself (let there be peace in this world and let it begin with me) and finally after a long walk made it to the ionic stadium, Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox! So fun!~ J (week 25, 2016)

Pubs: Homemade food; I love the lunches! (Favorites: The Old […]

I am sure many of us return to a place where we revisit our childhood memories. My journal this visit would record 10 memories (8 wonderful memories, 2 not so good):

Countryside: The English countryside! I loved walking through the buttercup fields in the village!

Pubs: Homemade food; I love the lunches! (Favorites: The Old Lion, Harborough Magna; The Queen’s Head Bretford! + many more)

Churches: St Denys, Pailton, where my father’s ashes are buried; St Johns, Brinklow, where they welcome visitors and ask them to join the Bell Ringers. One can hear the bells ringing several nights a week!

History! (Edward VIII Abdicates~ renounces crown for love). Let’s take a pass on Henry VIII? but there’s centuries of more!

Horses! Cross Country Events; Sue and Nibbles

Royalty! The Queen’s 90th birthday!

Vintage Cars! Honk! Honk!

Family and Friendships! (Love my Mum and Auntie Mo who have shared so much about our family history – it goes back a long way!)

And sad memories of domestic violence

And sad memories of bullies and silent secrets

~ Love this country! even with all it’s pomp and circumstance. Still a lot to clean up and speak about! I’m voting stay in! ~J

“Arlington” ~ Listen
“I never thought that this is where I’d settle down,
I thought I’d die an old man back in my hometown,
They gave me this plot of land, me and some other men, for a job well done,
There’s a big white house sits on a hill just up the road,

The man inside he cried the day they brought me home,
They folded up a flag and told my mom and dad, we’re proud of your son
And I’m proud to be on this peaceful piece of property,
I’m on sacred ground and I’m in the best of company,
I’m thankful for those thankful for the things I’ve done,
I can rest in peace, I’m one of the chosen ones, I made it to Arlington

I remember daddy brought me here when I was eight,
We searched all day to find out where my granddad lay,
And when we finally found that cross,
He said, “son this is what it cost to keep us free” Now here I am,
A thousand stones away from him,
He recognized me on the first day I came in,
And it gave me a chill when he clicked his heels, and saluted me.

And everytime I hear twenty-one guns,
I know they brought another hero home to us
We’re thankful for those thankful for the things we’ve done,
We can rest in peace, ’cause we are the chosen ones,
We made it to arlington, yea dust to dust,
Don’t cry for us, we made it to Arlington” TA
